Polygon Success Stories
PolyPower Story #52 "The Economics Lesson"
Auburn, Alabama is home to Auburn University, the largest University in the state. Auburn is not your typical college town. Over half of the population of Auburn either teaches or attends the University.
We have a fairly educated type of clientele here. Maybe they do not understand diamonds, but they do understand economics. Polygon provides me with a perfect opportunity to close sales with a lesson in economics. I first teach them the 4-C's, then I talk of cost and how it is affected by supply and demand. I explain that because of Polygon I am able to access an on-line inventory of over a hundred million dollars of diamonds from scores of different dealers from around the country. I show them that when you have that much supply in one place, you end up with a very efficient market. That means the lowest possible price and a selection that is greater than they will find anywhere else.
The college students love it! After going over my sales talk with a guy last week, he said, "Great! But I need it tomorrow!" I needed a sale, and it was four o'clock in the afternoon. "No problem," I explained. "We'll just choose a diamond from one of our West Coast suppliers on Polygon." Thanks to Polygon, the time zone difference and FedEx, I made a very nice sale.
Today I am buying over 90% of my diamonds either directly on Polygon or from dealers I met via Polygon. Why? Because the economics lesson is true. Polygon really is the most efficient marketplace for buying diamonds. It has the greatest number of buyers and sellers in one place, and the prices are consistently lower. As they teach at the University, the laws of economics are very powerful
